What is the BuyAccessible System?
What are BuyAccessible System Benefits?

The BuyAccessible system is available to any agency at no cost, and is the quickest, easiest, most efficient way to implement a Section (Sec.) 508 compliance process.

The BuyAccessible system is currently composed of four components:

1. The BuyAccessible Wizard:

A web-enabled application providing Sec. 508 acquisition support for agency buyers, contracting officers, programs requiring officials, micro-purchasers, and many other users who are involved with acquisitions.

The Wizard provides a step-by-step process through Sec. 508 requirements from the law, the Access Board standard, and the FAR (Federal Acquisition Regulation) System in the context of a standard acquisition process. The Wizard interacts with the Product & Services Directory for market research requests for accessibility information about E&IT-related companies, products, and services.

2. The BuyAccessible Product & Services Directory:

A web-enabled application providing accessibility information support for industry, E&IT producers--manufacturers and VARs (Value-Added Resellers) as well as E&IT-related service providers.

The Product & Services Directory manages references to vendor maintained data and interacts with the Wizard for market research by responding to requests for accessibility information about E&IT-related products and services.

3. The BuyAccessible Glossary:

The Glossary, a part of the BuyAccessible system, is a comprehensive collection of terms and definitions related to the Sec. 508 law, the FAR System, and the standards that are needed to comply with using the Wizard and/or Data Center.

A web-based BuyAccessible Glossary is currently under development, which will allow users to access the content independently. Please check back for updates announcing its readiness.

4. The BuyAccessible Taxonomy:

The Taxonomy, the fourth and last part of the BuyAccessible system, functions as a Wizard and Product & Services classification structure to allow searching for accessibility information vendors. The Taxonomy is based on the international Standard UNSPSC (United Nations Standard Products and Services Code).

Work is currently underway to launch a web-based Taxonomy, and when completed, users will be able to access the content independently. Please check back for updates announcing its readiness.
